Titans’ Cam Ward Gets Strong Message From Raiders’ Pete Carroll

The Las Vegas Raiders are 1-4 and will look to snap their four-game losing streak when the Tennessee Titans visit Allegiant Stadium. However, the Silver and Black will face a Titans team full of confidence after earning their first win of the season in Week 5.

Rookie quarterback Cam Ward completed 21 of 39 pass attempts while recording one interception. Despite not passing for a touchdown in the win over the Cardinals, the Raiders know how dangerous the young signal caller can be.

On the October 7 edition of “1 on 1,” Raiders head coach Pete Carroll shared insight on what the Las Vegas defense should expect from Ward, as that unit will be looking for a bounce-back performance after the Indianapolis Colts recorded 40 points.

“Cam Ward is a very, very talented kid [and] he’s unorthodox,” Carroll said. “He’ll scramble and throw; he’ll run around at times, but hasn’t run the football very much for the athlete that he is. He really is looking to throw, and he’s made some phenomenal plays—some plays that you would never be able to script.

“[Ward is] trying to find his consistency. He’s not a great completion percentage guy right now; he’s in the 50s, which we don’t see much of anymore… But he’s a little behind consistency-wise, though he’s very dynamic and has those plays in him. He showed it at the end of that game when he made a couple of great throws.”

Geno Smith Will Look to Bounce Back for the Raiders

While Ward will look to build off last week’s win for the Titans, Geno Smith will look to bounce back after his performance against the Colts. Moreover, the veteran will look to quiet the calls for Kenny Pickett to take over under center after Smith recorded two more interceptions in the Week 5 loss.

After the loss to the Colts on October 5, Smith spoke to reporters after the loss and shared the message he’s relaying to the Raiders locker room as their downward skid continues for another week.

“I think we didn’t come out [strong],” Smith said after the loss. “We didn’t execute the way we’re supposed to [on offense/defense]. That’s the reality of it. We got to fix it; we got to get better. We got to go to work and figure it out [as a team].”

Can the Raiders Salvage Their 2025 Season?

Smith also discussed what Las Vegas can do to turn things around in the 2025 NFL season before it completely slips away—if it hasn’t already.

“Work harder, study harder, study longer, band together, become a tighter group,” Smith added. “And I think we’re already a tight group, but we got to get tighter as a group. And guys got to lock in. I mean, it’s a tough game. It’s a one-play-at-a-time game.

“They’re going to face a tough team every week. Man, that’s the NFL. There’s not going to be any easy game. We got to get in our mind that we’re going to go out and win the game and we’re going to get it done. Until we do that, we’ll have the same results.”
