Titans Cut Ties With Former First-Round Pick

The Tennessee Titans made a tough move this week. The team officially released wide receiver Treylon Burks, as he came off injured reserve, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The decision closes the book on a rocky chapter for a player once viewed as a big piece of the future for the Titans’ offense.

Burks’ time in Tennessee began with promise, being drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He arrived with big expectations.

With the Titans shipping WR AJ Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles, the hope was that Burks could fill that role.

With the Titans continuing to navigate their season, the release of Burks shows this team at least has a vision for what they want to build around QB Cam Ward.

Burks Never Met Titans’ Expectations

Over his three seasons in Tennessee, Burks struggled to stay healthy.

He appeared in only 27 games in three seasons, battling injury and his inability to be consistent.

Every time Burks looked to have a breakthrough, something was there to always hold him back.

Moreover, the numbers tell a similar story.

Burks had 699 yards receiving in three seasons with the Titans, and more shockingly, he only had one career touchdown.

His inability to find the endzone and to make impactful plays clouded his development and ultimately led to his demise as a Titan.

On paper, Burks fits the bill for a number one receiver in today’s NFL.

Strong hands, good size and the ability to make plays after the catch.

Unfortunately, the Titans just ran out of patience, and Burks ran out of time.

The release signals a fresh start for both sides as Burks will now look for his second NFL home, and the Titans will continue their rebuild with a clear direction.

Tennessee Turns Page After First Win

The Titans are coming off their first win of the season, with a much-needed victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

The performance was far from perfect, and the Titans were able to capitalize on some bizarre plays, but it showed signs of progress.

Rookie quarterback Cam Ward continues to build confidence each week under center, showing flashes of excellent play at times.

In addition, the Titans’ offense is slowly finding rhythm as the season progresses.

The play-calling switch from HC Brian Callahan to Bo Hardegree offers a more stable ground for the offense to build off of.

Still, it remains clear that Ward still needs help around him.

The departure of Burks only emphasizes the need for more receiving talent.

With each game that goes by, the priority for the Titans continues to rear its head.

Surround Cam Ward with talent at the wide receiver position who can stay on the field and make plays.

Through trades, next year’s draft and free agency, the Titans’ mission is clear.

The Titans now look to build a new core and develop consistency.

The win over the Cardinals offered a glimpse of what’s possible.

The Burks era may have ended in disappointment, but the Titans are moving forward and determined to redefine their offense.
