The Kansas City Chiefs did not open the 2025 campaign in the way they were hoping to, as they suffered a 27-21 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. Now, they have to turn their attention to a Super Bowl LIX rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, and according to legendary quarterback Tom Brady, this is a big game for the Chiefs.
The last time we saw these two teams square off, Philadelphia dominated Kansas City to the tune of a 40-22 victory. With the Chiefs staring down the barrel at an 0-2 start if they lose to the Eagles again, Brady kept it real when discussing just how important this game is for K.C. and its 2025 season.
Tom Brady Dishes on Chiefs’ Super Bowl Rematch with Eagles
For the first time since Patrick Mahomes took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback, the team seems vulnerable. They were destroyed by the Eagles in the Super Bowl last year, and the Chargers handed them a surprising loss in Brazil to open the season. Now, Kansas City has to play Philadelphia again, and picking up a victory is going to be tough.
The Eagles have enough talent on both sides of the ball to go toe-to-toe with the Chiefs, and that’s before even noting that K.C. is shorthanded for this game, particularly at wide receiver. Rashee Rice is still serving his six-game suspension, and both Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals have been ruled out for this game. That leaves Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton as Mahomes’ top options at wideout.
Brady knows what it’s like to be in Kansas City’s shoes, as he has experienced pretty much everything you can think of during the course of his 23-year playing career. Brady is well aware that the stakes for this game are quite high, and he believes that it’s imperative for the Chiefs to pick up a statement victory over the Eagles and get back on track.
“The Chiefs, this is a big statement game for them, less so than last year’s game, which, for the fans, I know it feels like it’s a Super Bowl rematch, but I think the Chiefs need to just get back on track this season,” Brady said on “FOX NFL.” “They’re 0-1, it’s their first home game of the year, they got a quality opponent. They gotta find a way to pull this one out.”
Do the Chiefs Have Enough Firepower to Take Down the Eagles?

Philadelphia didn’t necessarily look as good as it did during the playoffs last season in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, but it still managed to come away with a victory. Beyond that, Kansas City looked shaky on both sides of the ball against Los Angeles. With that in mind, it’s fair to wonder if they have what it takes to slow down the Eagles in this one.
Playing in front of their home crowd at Arrowhead Stadium will certainly help, but the Chiefs are facing an uphill battle in Week 2 against the Eagles, and they will need to be significantly better than they were in their season-opener if they intend to win. With kickoff being scheduled for this game at 4:25 p.m. ET, all eyes will be on Kansas City to see if it can pull out a victory over the reigning Super Bowl champions.
