Tommy Fleetwood Fights for Breakthrough Finish with Strong Tour Championship Start

At the conclusion of day 2 of the 2025 Tour Championship, Tommy Fleetwood once again sent fans into a frenzy by teasing a first place finish at the Tour Championship. The English golfer has made waves as of late, shooting a career low at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, a score he matched on Friday at East Lake Golf Club for round 2 of the 2025 Tour Championship.

Fleetwood Looking for a Maiden Win

Despite 163 career starts, Englishman Tommy Fleetwood remains winless on the PGA Tour. Regardless, the 34-year-old professional stays positive and graceful, and even a little bit humorous, in spite of his many close calls.

“I think it would be pretty funny if I won this week and then got the FedEx Cup as well,” Fleetwood said. “I think that would be funny. I’ll finish it off at some point. I’ll get it right and I’ll get it right more than once. But being there is actually the hard part in a way,” Fleetwood said before the Tour Championship.

“Just because I guess things haven’t worked out for me before doesn’t mean they won’t work out this week or next week or whenever that may be,” Fleetwood said. “Just happy that I’ve got off to a great start in another tournament and I’m there again.”

Interviews like this consistently remind fans that Fleetwood is not only a talented and dedicated golfer, but a great person and someone to look up to.

“I’m enjoying this run that I’m on, and I’m enjoying how well I have played so far,” he said. “And yeah, I’d like to keep that going.”

That kind of sentiment is something that keeps Fleetwood personable but competitive. There’s no doubt that he can win a PGA title, it’s not about if, but when, for the seasoned professional.

Tied for the Lead at the Tour Championship

At the conclusion of the second round of the Tour Championship, Fleetwood found himself tied for first place with Russell Henley. Both professionals ended the day with a 7-under 63, tied for the No. 1 spot.

On the back 9, Fleetwood played an impressive game, sinking 6 birdies and forcing his way to the top spot. Henley also put up a fight, and ended the day with two birdies on the last two holes alongside Fleetwood.

All I can do is keep learning,” Fleetwood said. “I actually feel like I’ve played very, very well when I have led the tournaments and been in contention. It’s just I might have not got things right right at the end. It’s not like I’ve crashed and burned. It’s just that I’ve not quite finished things off. The people that win the most are the guys that are in contention the most.”

“That’s where I want to be,” he said. “I keep going. I love the buzz when I am in contention, and I’m just excited for the opportunity again.”

Close behind the top two is recent first-time winner Cameron Young. The American golfer has focused on his short game. Impressively scoring a 29 on the back 9 at East Lake Golf Club.

Fans can cheer on Fleetwood as he continues the fight for his first time PGA Tour win at the final leg of the 2025 FedExCup Championship in East Lake Golf Club this upcoming weekend.
