Trade Proposal Sees Mavericks Add All-Star Point Guard

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the worst teams in the Western Conference. They sit 12th in the Western Conference standings, which is better than they were. Anthony Davis has returned to the lineup, which has helped them win a few more games.

One of the big reasons that the Mavs have been struggling this season, besides not having Davis available because of injury, has been the lack of a point guard. Kyrie Irving has not played yet this season, and they have not found a suitable replacement.

One trade proposal from Bleacher Report has the Mavericks landing a former All-Star at the point guard position in LaMelo Ball.

Mavericks Land LaMelo Ball in Trade Proposal

Here is the full trade proposal:

Dallas Mavericks Receive:

  • PG LaMelo Ball (from Hornets)

Los Angeles Lakers Receive:

Charlotte Hornets Receive:

  • 2029 first-round pick (unprotected via Lakers from Mavericks)

This trade would finally give the Mavs a player who can effectively move the ball and generate open shots for teammates. While Ball also takes a lot of shots, he is an excellent passer. He also gives the Mavericks their point guard of the future.

Irving has proven that he can play off the ball effectively, as he did so with Luka Doncic. That means that Ball would be allowed to play with the ball in his hands when Irving returns. Dallas isn’t giving up a lot in this trade, either.

Gafford is their best center, but he has had issues staying healthy. With Derrick Lively II back, they can use him as their starter again. P.J. Washington has shown the ability to play center, as well.

The Dallas Mavericks Need a Healthy Point Guard

Right now, the only point guard the Mavericks have that is healthy is D’Angelo Russell. Russell has the worst offensive rating since his third NBA season. It’s clear that the Mavericks need to do something soon at that spot, or the season will be lost.

Developing Cooper Flagg into an All-Star player should be Dallas’ top priority. Getting him a point guard who can put him in the right spots to score is paramount to that development.
