Trae Young Goes Viral for Explosive Response to Pat Bev

Atlanta Hawks All-Star Trae Young has gone viral on social media for delivering an explosive response to former NBA player Patrick Beverley, aka Pat Bev, who initially criticized Young for lacking winning intangibles.

In a near-12-minute video, Young lambasted Pat Bev for overestimating his value to winning and for having the audacity to compare their careers.

“You played with some big-time players, my guy,” Young said, responding to Pat Bev’s claim that he has been to the playoffs six more times.

“You talk about winning and impacting winning,” Young continued. “How about we name some of these guys: LeBron, Giannis, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Ant-Man, and KAT. We’re not even gonna talk about how we celebrate a play-in win!”

“I win play-in games on the road and I’m ready to get to the playoffs. You win play-in games at home and you’re standing on the scores table acting like it’s a championship.”

How the Beef Started

Young further noted that he was “never scared” to go up against Pat Bev despite the latter’s repuation as a tough defender.

“What was your real impact on winning?” Young asked.

“I know you were labeled as a tough defender, a great defender, and the accolades say that you were. But I promise you, anytime you were on the court with me, I was never scared of you. I was never scared of Patty Bev.” he concluded.

The beef started when Pat Bev questioned Young’s ability to lead a team.

“He’s been to the playoffs three times, I’ve been to the playoffs nine (times),” Beverley said. “I’ve talked to people who’ve played in Atlanta. They don’t want to play there. They don’t think he’s a good leader, they don’t think he’s a good teammate.”

Young – Hawks Contract Stalemate

Young could potentially hit free agency in 2026, marking his potential departure from the franchise that drafted him No. 3 overall in 2018 (via the Mavericks). This offseason, Young was eligible for a contract extension, but was not offered one by the Hawks, who reportedly prefer to wait until after the 2025-26 season to discuss his future.

According to ESPN’s Marc Spears, Young was “disappointed” that the Hawks didn’t offer him a contract extension this offseason.

“What I’m hearing now, at this point— you can tell by Trae’s Tweet, and I saw him during the Finals— I think he’s disappointed that it hasn’t come, it hasn’t been offered,” Spears said. “So don’t be surprised if he plays this out, and sees what happens next summer.”

Young himself hinted at his unhappiness when he sent a message to Micah Parsons amid the contract dispute between the NFL star and the Dallas Cowboys

“This why you pay the man early, when someone will take less early to stay in a place he wanted to be forever, you do it… the price only goes up now!” he wrote on X. “Get what you deserve bro!”

While they didn’t sign Young to a four-year $229 million extension, the Hawks made a lot of noise this offseason, landing Kristaps PorzingisNickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard to bolster their roster.
