Two-Time Coach of the Year Tabbed as a Potential Giants HC Candidate

The New York Giants will be embarking on their sixth head coaching search since their last Super Bowl victory come January.

For a once-proud franchise, the years of futility have taken a toll on a success-starved fanbase.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka will have a chance to earn the job over the back half of the 2025 season, but the odds are likely that New York’s next head coach will be a candidate from outside the building.

In the days since Brian Daboll’s firing, several names have been thrown out as potential replacements for the lead role on the Giants‘ sideline.

Among them, a two-time Coach of the Year candidate who is currently employed but could be looking for a new job at season’s end.

Kevin Stefanski Named as Potential Giants HC

SNY’s Connor Hughes named current Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski as a possible head coaching candidate.

Stefanski, who, of course, is still with the Browns, has been speculated to be in his final year at the helm in Cleveland.

“The two-time NFL Coach of the Year will be in extremely high demand if Cleveland lets him go. He’s had significant success despite being hamstrung by decisions that he likely didn’t control (Deshaun Watson),” wrote Hughes.

“Considering the quarterback roulette that Stefanski has dealt with over the past couple years, he might jump at the chance to work with Jaxson Dart.”

Stefanski would certainly be stepping into a better quarterback situation with the New York Giants than he had any year with the Browns.

Jaxson Dart has displayed tantalizing upside and ability in his first NFL season, more so than any quarterback Stefanski has worked with in Cleveland.

Baker Mayfield wasn’t the Mayfield we know and love in Tampa Bay in the early days of Stefanski’s tenure, and the revolving door of Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel would be hard for any coach to succeed with.

A second chance in New York could be fruitful for both Stefanski and the Giants, and could be a great hire if the Browns decide to fire their head coach.

Dan Orlovsky Makes the Case for Stefanski in New York

It’s not just Hughes who has linked Stefanski to the New York Giants job.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks the two-time Coach of the Year would be a great fit in New York as well.

“The number one name I would pay attention to if I were the Giants is what happens in Cleveland with Kevin Stefanski. If I can hand-pick a guy, it would be Stefanski,” Orlovsky said on NFL Live.

“He’s an outstanding coach, two-time Coach of the Year. I understand people in Cleveland are like, ‘This guy can’t coach.’ There’s a lot of empirical data that says otherwise.”

“This is a difficult spot for the Giants…you need to get a guy that’s going to bring the best out of Jaxson Dart.”

Stefanski’s record as a head coach currently sits at 42-51, having seen most of his success early on in his Cleveland Brown’s tenure when the roster was a lot better.

Not to say that the Giants are exactly built to win now, but it’s possible Stefanski could get more out of New York’s talent than Daboll has in recent years.
