Tyron Woodley Reveals UFC Contender Helped Prepare Him for Anderson Silva Clash

Tyron Woodley is gearing up for his boxing clash with Anderson Silva. The fight takes place on the undercard of the highly anticipated Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua event. He recently revealed that UFC middleweight contender Michael ‘Venom’ Page has helped him prepare.

The boxing match, which streams live on Netflix on Dec. 19, will feature two legendary UFC champions facing off. Woodley is a former welterweight champion, while Silva is a former middleweight champion and considered one of the greatest of all time.

Woodley has less boxing experience than Silva, so he enlisted the help of Page. ‘MVP’ is known for his unorthodox striking style and could be an asset for ‘The Chosen One’

During an interview with BettingLounge, Woodley revealed that he and Page began working while in the set of Road House 2. He expressed gratitude toward the No. 10 ranked UFC middleweight for helping him prepare him for Silva.

‘The Chosen One’ emphasized that he is using their time on set to train and gain knowledge from Page.

“I’m doing a fighting movie right now, so a lot of us are training and getting ready for fight scenes,” Woodley said. There are a lot of martial artists around, and specifically Michael ‘Venom’ Page, who is a perfect replica to train with to get ready for Anderson [Silva]. It’s been a blessing in disguise [working on the same movie].”

Tyron Woodley Praises Michael ‘Venom’ Page

Tyron Woodley also praised Michael ‘Venom’ Page for his mentality and knowledge, leaning on his expertise.

Page has showcased his striking skills throughout his career. He most recently secured an impressive win over Jared Cannonier, bringing him closer to the title picture at 185 pounds.

Woodley shared insight into his training sessions with Page and how he has helped hold him accountable.

“[Page is] more than just a fighter, he’s got a phenomenal mind for the sport. He’s almost stepped into a coaching role for me, especially with accountability,” Woodley told BettingLounge. “I feel comfortable with him saying, ‘You need to do this more, don’t do that,’ because he fights a similar style to Silva. Flashy, elusive, open-space striker, very quick, hard to hit, hard to grab.”

He continued:

“Pinning him in a corner of the ring, landing shots on him, dealing with his unpredictability gives you the same type of anxiety someone would feel preparing for Anderson.”

How Did Woodley vs. Anderson Silva Materialize?

Woodley vs. Silva came together rather quickly, as the former middleweight champion was in need of a new opponent.

Silva was initially set to face Chris Weidman in a boxing match at the Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis event. However, the event was scrapped after issues arose with Davis, and Anthony Joshua stepped in as a replacement for a rescheduled event.

After the event was rescheduled, Weidman sustained an injury that forced him to withdraw. As a result, Woodley stepped in as his replacement and will now face ‘The Spider’ instead.

Woodley enters the fight with an 0-2 professional boxing record, with both losses coming against Paul. Silva, on the other hand, enters with a 3-2 professional record that also includes a loss to Paul.
