UDFA Receiving Triple Crown Winner Projected to Make 53-Man Roster for Falcons

Each offseason, there are undrafted free agents (UDFAs) who spend their spring and summer fighting for roster spots. After the final pick is made in each draft, there are still dozens of talented players ready to make an impact for any team that will take a chance on them.

Despite a historic final season at San Jose State, wide receiver Nick Nash didn’t hear his name called during the 2025 NFL Draft. But, shortly after the draft, the Falcons decided to take a chance on him.

With a wide receiver room lacking depth, Nash should have a realistic shot to make Atlanta’s roster. Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski agrees, as he chose Nash as his UDFA most likely to make the Falcons roster on Wednesday.

Nick Nash Most Likely UDFA to Make Falcons Roster

The Falcons wide receiver room boasts some of the best top-end talent in the league, with Drake London and Darnell Mooney establishing themselves as true No. 1 and No. 2 receivers, respectively.

London led the Falcons in receptions, yards and touchdowns in both 2022 and 2024. His yardage has increased in each of his three seasons, culminating in a top-5 finish in 2024 to go along with career-highs in receptions and touchdowns.

While Darnell Mooney looked to be on track for a breakout in 2021, the Bears‘ mess of a quarterback situation stood in the way. During his first season with the Falcons last year, Mooney jumped back up near the 1,000-yard mark and hauled in a career-high five touchdowns.

“From there, the position group lacks a legitimate receiving threat,” Sobleski wrote. The other Falcon mentioned was KhaDarel Hodge, who Sobleski noted “makes his living on special teams.”

But, he offered a solution for Atlanta’s problem: “Sign college football’s top wide receiver from the 2024 season.”

UDFA Nick Nash should slot in nicely as a bigger wide receiver who can use his body effectively against smaller defenders. London is listed at 6′ 4″, 213 lbs., so he’s taller than the average wide receiver. But, Mooney stands at just 5′ 11″ and Ray-Ray McCloud measures just 5′ 9″. So, there’s room on the roster for a player with Nash’s size and skillset.

Nash Has the Body and Hands to Make a Pro Roster

Nash is one of six wide receivers to make the list of UDFAs most likely to make a roster this summer. But, he should have a leg up on each of the others.

Nash earned the receiving triple crown last year. Only three other receivers have accomplished the feat in college football history, and two are pretty good company. The first was 11-year NFL receiver Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech, 2007). The EaglesDeVonta Smith also accomplished the feat in 2020 during his Heisman season at Alabama.

Nash led the country in receptions (104), yards (1,382) and touchdowns (16) during the regular season. Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr. – now on the Browns – ultimately finished with the edge over Nash, when including bowl stats. But, Nash played one fewer game after opting out of San Jose State’s bowl game.

While Nash ended up as a UDFA, NFL training could help him polish his abilities and land a roster spot. Even as one of the older prospects in this year’s draft – he turned 26 earlier this month – he didn’t start his college career as a wide receiver.

According to an article highlighting Nash’s triple crown campaign, “Nash has only been a true wide receiver for 26 games.” But, his 16 touchdown receptions in the 2024 campaign “were more than 38 FBS schools this season.”

“Typically, his level of production deserves a draft slot,” Sobleski wrote. “In his case, he’s an older prospect (26), because he didn’t start playing wide receiver until his fifth year on campus and he’s not a top-end athlete. But he knows how to get open and use his body as a target.”
