Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Jack Draper, Venus Williams and Emma Raducanu are all taking part in the new-look event.

Why has there been so much controversy?

Defending US Open mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori have blasted the changes as a ‘profound injustice’ and a ‘pseudo-exhibition’ that disrespects doubles specialists.

Tennis icon Martina Navratilova added that it ‘makes a mockery of the title’ by excluding doubles experts.

Jan Zielinski, who won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles last year, posted on Instagram that the decision had been taken without ‘any consultation with the players and based strictly on profit’.
