Veteran Bills Tackle Could Be in Hot Water for Actions After Panthers Win

The Buffalo Bills dominated the Carolina Panthers in Sunday’s 40-9 victory, bullying the defense as James Cook had a career-best day on the ground.

The dominance may have led to some tension between the teams, which spilled over into a scuffle between some players after the game. Video emerged of an on-field confrontation that included a Bills player familiar with skirmishes — veteran left tackle Dion Dawkins.

Dion Dawkins Could Face Some Discipline After Scrap

Video shared on X by reporter Kimberly A. Martin showed Dawkins in a heated confrontation with Panthers defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson on the field after the game ended. As Martin explained, the incident began when Dawkins approached his adversary for a handshake after the game.

“Crazy scene at the end of Bills-Panthers … Talked to Dion Dawkins on the field, asked him why emotions were so high between him and A’Shawn Robinson. Dawkins looked up at the scoreboard and said: ’40-9.’ ” Martin wrote. “Said he was trying to shake hands postgame and then … chaos.”

Anthony Rizzuti of USA Today’s Panthers Wire noted that Dawkins appeared to throw something in Robinson’s direction, though video did not show any direct confrontation as the defensive lineman’s teammates were holding him back.

“Dawkins appears to throw his hat in Robinson’s direction,” Rizzuti wrote. “Robinson, obviously, didn’t take too kindly to the offering—and had to be restrained by teammate and fellow defensive lineman Derrick Brown after charging towards Dawkins.”

Dion Dawkins Has Been in Trouble for Fights in the Past

This is not the first time that Dawkins has been involved in an altercation after a game. He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and fined $11,255 last year for a confrontation with New York Jets player Quinnen Williams during a period between the third and fourth quarters of a game, when the lights were dimmed on the field.

Dawkins said he was surprised that the NFL fined him for the incident, saying it was the Jets players who got in his face during the stoppage in the game.

The veteran Bills player has a long history of confrontations with the Jets. He was also fined $10,927 for unnecessary roughness in a 2023 game, then got into a scuffle with Jets defender Michael Clemons after the contest.

Dawkins said later that there is some bad blood between him and the Jets defenders he faces twice a year.

“I hate them. All of them, bro,” Dawkins said.

The left tackle, now the longest-tenured player on the Bills, accused the Jets players of only trying to look cool on the field.

“When it comes to sports, right? There’s people who play the sport because they love the sport,” he said. “And then there’s people who play the sport just to try to be cool. I feel like they play the sport just to be cool. Like, those are a bunch of dudes that just want to take pictures on Instagram. That’s wack. Like, I play this because I die by it.”

Dawkins will have to wait a few more days to learn if he faces more punishment for the confrontation after the Panthers win. The NFL announces all Week 8 fines on Saturday afternoon.
