“Amazing, amazing. Grateful to be here.” Buffalo Bills S Jordan Poyer opened his (re-)introductory press conference on Thursday with a statement of gratitude for being back in Buffalo, the place where his career really took off.
Poyer was a seventh-round pick by the Eagles out of Oregon State in 2013, and was traded to the Browns mid-season. He spent the next three years in Cleveland before signing with the Bills in 2017 and spending seven years in Buffalo as one of the best safeties in the league. After a year in Miami with the Dolphins last year, he’s back in Buffalo for his eighth season.
“This is where my heart is,” Poyer said on the city of Buffalo. “It’s where home is, where I essentially grew up in this game. On and off the field. My daughter’s grown up in this town, this city. And I feel like this is a way for me to give back to the community, to this team. I feel like I can still give back to the game in many ways, whether that be on the field or off the field.”

“Like I said, this is where my heart is. I’m extremely thankful to be here,” Poyer repeated. “It’s surreal. Yesterday I was on a jetski with my daughter in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and now we’re here. Just finished the first practice of the season and again I’m just extremely thankful to be here.”
Poyer was named a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and made a Pro Bowl in 2022. He had four seasons with over 100 tackles while in Buffalo and had 22 interceptions during his seven-year stint with the team. During his 2021 All-Pro season, Poyer had 93 tackles, three sacks, five interceptions, and nine passes defensed.
Poyer on His Role with the Buffalo Bills this Season
“I feel like I can help in many ways,” Poyer answered when asked about how he sees his role on this team. “You know, I’m 34 now, I’m not getting any younger. I understand that. But at the same time, I still feel like I have gas left in the tank. Last year [with the Dolphins], put asterisks by it. It was a tough year all around. I’m not gonna throw anything at what went down over there, but at the same time, it was a hard year.”
“Again, I’m just extremely thankful to be here, and I feel like I still have a lot left to prove — to myself, to this game, to the people around me. And I keep the receipts, so I’m working hard. I’m coming in with my head down; [I’m] just gonna work. Help the guys, be an extra set of eyes, an extra sets of ears, and just be a service. But don’t get me wrong, I’m also here to play football at a high level.”
