Victor Wembanyama’s Viral Highlights Have NBA Fans Buzzing

Victor Wembanyama’s highlight reel continues to grow, even in the preseason.

The third-year generational Frenchman posted his best game of the preseason, tallying a double-double with 27 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block, along with some eye-popping highlights that had social media abuzz, as he led the San Antonio Spurs to a 128-108 win over the Indiana Pacers on October 13.

“I seen he’s got a lot stronger,” Spurs guard Stephon Castle said in his post-game press conference. “I mean, he’s got another year under his belt, so obviously his IQ raised a lot more. I think he’s becoming a lot more of a willing passer. With how much attention he brings, and with his height, he can see over the defense really well. I think he’s getting everybody involved to start the game and then finding his own shot throughout.”

Victor Wembanyama: Big Man, Big Expectations in 2025-26

It was the most complete game of the preseason for the All-Star. He cracked the 20-point mark against Utah on October 10 in just 16 minutes, which was an impressive offensive production, but he didn’t stuff the rest of the statsheet. In his two preseason games prior, he had 10 and nine points, respectively – far from his usual gaudy totals.

Monday’s performance showed the all-around dominance that many fans expect in 2025-26.

“I think Victor in transition and in half the court, he’s going to have the ball in so many spots, and be able to affect the game because of the attention he draws,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said post-game. “For him to make plays for his teammates is really, really important. He’ll have a lot of chances to do that.”

Fresh off an All-Star season, even bigger things are expected out of the 7-foot-5 center/power forward. Last season he averaged 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.8 blocks per game while he was limited to just 46 games due to blood clots in his left shoulder. Many are expecting him to improve on that, including sportsbooks. FanDuel currently lists Wembanyama as having the fourth-best MVP odds (+1200) this season, ranking him behind last season’s MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, perennial MVP-contender Luka Doncic and with identical odds to two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo

Wembanyama Highlights vs. the Indiana Pacers

The French phenom gave fans an early glimpse of the gains he made in the offseason, and also uncorked a vintage freakish play against the Pacers

Early in the first quarter, Wembanyama bullied Pacers forward Isaiah Jackson into the paint, discarding him with ease for an easy path to a thunderous dunk. The play showed a huge gain in strength by Wembanyama this offseason.

In the second quarter, in a play that has made Wembanyama must-watch since he’s come into the league, the Alien took a routine free throw miss from Harrison Barnes and made it must-watch.

According to Basketball Reference, Wembanyama had 91 dunks last season, which trailed his rookie season production of 165. If his performance against the Pacers is any indicator, fans should be expecting a lot of rim-rattlers in 2025-26.
