The Minnesota Vikings have been forced into another roster shuffle, ruling J.J. McCarthy out for Week 13 against the Seattle Seahawks. In his place on the game day roster, the Vikings are calling on former undrafted free agent John Wolford.
The Vikings are starting another UFA, rookie Max Brosmer, in McCarthy’s place.
However, just as Brosmer has been in the wake of Carson Wentz going on injured reserve, Wolford is now one snap away from game action in Week 13.
Vikings Elevate Former Rams QB John Wolford From Practice Squad

The Vikings announced in a post on X on November 29 that they had elevated Wolford among their roster moves. Wolford signed with the Vikings on October 29, with Saturday’s move marking his one-month anniversary.
Wolford, 30, entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2018.
He has played for the Los Angeles Rams during the NFL regular season and was a member of their 2021 Super Bowl team.
Wolford has 626 yards, 1 touchdown, and 5 interceptions on 58.7% completion in his career, with a 2-2 record as a starter. He last started in Week 14 of the 2022 season with the Rams but almost immediately conceded duties to Baker Mayfield, now of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Wolford has also spent time with the Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Vikings are going into a game against former starter Sam Darnold, who has the Seahawks in contention for the postseason, while they themselves cling to their own chances.
An inexperienced QB room is hardly a recipe for success. However, the Vikings are high on Brosmer, and head coach Kevin O’Connell is familiar with Wolford from their time together in LA during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
They also have Desmond Ridder on the practice squad.
Vikings Turn Back to Dwight ‘Nudie’ McGlothern

The Vikings also announced they elevated Dwight McGlothern from the practice squad for Week 13. They have yo-yoed the fan favorite, McGlothern, over the past two weeks.
A second-year former UDFA cornerback affectionately known as “Nudie,” McGlothern was surprisingly waived ahead of Week 12, only to get re-signed to the Vikings’ practice squad ahead of the Green Bay Packers game.
McGlothern was not called up in Week 12 but has played in eight games for Minnesota in 2025.
There was a time when McGlothern seemed in line to compete for more reps in the Vikings’ defense, but that has not come to fruition. The Vikings enter Week 13 ranked sixth against the pass, so there is little reason to shake up the secondary.
The Vikings listed safeties Josh Metellus and Theo Jackson as questionable on their final injury report, which could open up reps in nickel packages for McGlothern against the Seahawks.
Seahawks Make Flurry of Roster Moves

The Vikings had a relatively quiet day of transactions, with only McGlothern and Wolford reported. Their Week 13 opponent, however, was quite active, shuffling several players around before the contest, including former Vikings tailback Myles Gaskin.
“The Seahawks signed running back Myles Gaskin from the practice squad to their 53-man roster on Saturday, placing running back George Holani on injured reserve to make room on the roster,” Seahawks.com’s John Boyle wrote on November 29. “The Seahawks also elevated safety Quandre Diggs and running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad.”
Seattle is navigating injuries in their secondary and at running back.
Whether or not the Vikings can take advantage of that will largely depend on how well Brosmer (or maybe even Wolford) can hold his own.
