Vikings QB Max Brosmer Doesn’t Hold Back on Justin Jefferson

The Minnesota Vikings officially announced on November 28 that Max Brosmer will start in Week 13 against the Seattle Seahawks.

While J.J. McCarthy did have limited practice this week after entering concussion protocol, it appears the Vikings will play it safe with their second-year quarterback.

Ahead of Brosmer’s first season on November 30, the 24-year-old spoke with reporters and highlighted the connection that he’s had with Justin Jefferson this week to help him prepare for his first NFL start.

“The one thing I like about Justin right now is his leadership and his energy,” Brosmer said about the Vikings star. “I felt like this week he was mentally locked in and dialed in. For a guy that he hasn’t gotten a lot of reps with at quarterback, it can be tough sometimes as the older guy getting ready to go play on Sunday.

“I felt like he handled himself really well. You can feel his presence in the huddle. That’s what you want from the guy, from the No. 1 receiver. I’m really proud of him for that. I’m excited to go get with him this Sunday.”

One of the biggest tasks Brosmer will face is getting the Vikings’ offense going, which has struggled recently. In four of their past five games, Minnesota have failed to score more than 20 points, and in all four of those contests, the Vikings suffered a loss.

The only time that Minnesota scored more than 20 points was on November 2 against the Detroit Lions, which was their only win in this last five-game stretch.

Vikings’ Justin Jefferson Backs Max Brosmer

Jefferson has had an up-and-down season statistically, recording only two games of over 100 yards receiving. As a result, it will be interesting to see whether these two can link up. Nonetheless, while not having chemistry with Brosmer, Jefferson is fully confident with him under center against the Seahawks.

“I would say his ability to make reads and really, seeing the different coverages and seeing ways that we can attack them with his arm, he has the ability to really sling it in there, and he also has the touch to loft it into a spot,” Jefferson said while speaking to the media on November 26.

“So being able to process information quickly would be just getting it in and out of his hands as fast as possible so he doesn’t feel the effect of the rush.”

T.J. Hockenson Also Has Confidence in Max Brosmer

Moreover, Jefferson isn’t the only pass catcher to have confidence in Brosmer; tight end T.J. Hockenson is also backing the backup, saying the backup has what it takes to get the team a win to snap their three-game losing streak.

“We’ve got the utmost confidence in Max,” Hockenson said to the media on November 26. “Throughout training camp and the year, he’s mentally prepared himself to be ready to go.

“He has confidence in the huddle, and being out there and trying to be an option for him is really my job—to find space and get him into a role, in a rhythm of things. We have nothing but confidence in him and what he can do as a player. It’ll be a good opportunity for all of us.”
