Vikings Reveal Aaron Jones Injury Update After Win Over Lions

The Minnesota Vikings ended their two-game skid with a 27-24 victory over the Detroit Lions on November 2 at Ford Field. While the Vikings are now 4-4, the win did come at a cost with Aaron Jones suffering a shoulder injury.

Jones was running the ball effectively to help give J.J. McCarthy support as the second-year quarterback returned under center. The veteran running back had 78 rushing yards and two catches for 20 yards before he got hurt.

Following the win over the Lions, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke to reporters to share the latest on Jones.

“Aaron Jones came out of the game, evaluated for, I believe, a shoulder and a toe,” O’Connell told reporters. “We’ll see where he’s at. Hope to get some good news on Aaron, but thought it was a big thing to have him back on the field with us.”

Will Aaron Jones Miss Time?

With the win, the Vikings are back in the middle of the playoff picture in the NFC. As a result, each game now matters as the 2025 NFL season is at its midway point. Nonetheless, one report reveals that Jones will be back on the field in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jones suffered a minor AC joint sprain in his shoulder, but he expects to play against the Ravens, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. When healthy, Jones is the Vikings’ starting running back. Nonetheless, injuries have limited him this season, leaving Jordan Mason as the team’s leading rusher for much of the year.

The Lions Blame Themselves for the Loss to the Vikings

Despite the Vikings showing flashes of offensive success with McCarthy back as the starting quarterback, Lions head coach Dan Campbell feels his team handed the game to their opponents with their Week 9 performance.

“They executed and made the plays they needed to, and it’s credit to that, too, Campbell told reporters postgame (h/t Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit). “As far as us, we did everything we needed to do to lose that game. We made every critical area you needed to at the right time to lose it. Perfect storm. When you don’t play well in all three phases, that falls on the head because that’s me. I did not have them ready coming out of a bye.

“We made too many mistakes. Some of our discipline issues and the penalties caught up to us. There were moments we were out of sync. We never looked comfortable and just didn’t make enough plays. We had multiple chances to put ourselves in position to win that game, and we didn’t take advantage of any of them. I’ve got to clean some things up — and we will. I will.

“We did have a few guys play well, but overall it was just too much. The penalties and turnovers at the wrong times really hurt us. The defense got put in some tough spots, but even then, we expect them to get stops when there’s a sudden change. We just didn’t handle the day well.”
