Vinicius Junior is well aware of his importance to Real Madrid’s core of star players. His future remains up in the air, but the Brazilian star forward provided an update on his contract negotiations with the Spanish club.
Real Madrid is progressed through the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup, advancing to the knockout rounds. They reached the Round of 16, where they will meet Italian club Juventus.
Vinicius Junior scored a goal in the team’s 3-0 win over Austrian squad Red Bull Salzburg in the last match, securing his squad’s spot in the next round. His current contract runs until 2027, meaning he has two years remaining. His future beyond that is uncertain, but he made sure to provide an update on how negotiations with the club’s front office are going.
“I hope I can stay here for many years. I’ve always said it’s the club of my life. I’m very happy with the coach and the entire staff, and I hope I can stay here,” he said after the match.

Vinicius Junior has headlined Real Madrid as one of their brightest stars since joining the club in 2018. The last few years had him grow to become one of the best players in the world, showing incredible speed, dribbling and goalscoring moments.
In the last four seasons, he has scored 20 or more goals total. In the biggest club tournament in Europe, the UEFA Champions League, he has been way more active. Throughout the last three editions, he produced 14 goals after 21 matches, having multiple goals in two Champions League finals.
It would be vital for Real Madrid to retain the star winger beyond 2027. While they do have Kylian Mbappe up front as their star striker, Rodrygo being productive at the wing, and young forward Endrick on the rise, the club will remain one of the powerhouses in Europe. However, keeping Vinicius Junior will allow them to stay in the mix as the best squad in the world.
The club went undefeated in the group stage of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. After drawing 1-1 with Saudi club Al Hilal, they secured 3-1 and 3-0 victories over Mexican squad Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg. With seven points, they secured the top spot of Group H, scoring seven goals while only conceding two.
Vinicius Junior only has one goal so far, getting it in the last group match. Other players who have obtained goals are Federico Valverde (twice), Gonzalo Garcia (twice), Jude Bellingham, and Arda Guler. The team played the entire group stage without Mbappe, who was unavailable due to injury. Despite this, they can expect to have him back for the knockout rounds.
Real Madrid will prepare for their Round of 16 matchup against Juventus. The match will take place on July 1 at 3 p.m. ET.
