Virgil van Dijk has raised doubts over his long-term future at Liverpool once Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield.

Klopp stunned Liverpool’s players and supporters last week after publicly announcing his decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, has been a key part of Liverpool’s success during Klopp’s era, helping the club win six major trophies including the Premier League and Champions League.

The 32-year-old’s current contract with Liverpool is due to expire next year and the defender has indicated that he may move on when Klopp departs.

When asked if he could envisage being part of the post-Klopp era at Liverpool, Van Dijk said: ‘That’s a big question. Well, I don’t know.’

When he was reminded that he has just 18 months left on his contract with Liverpool, Van Dijk said: ‘That is correct, good maths. Listen, I don’t know.

‘The club will have a big job on their hands. That is well known. To replace the manager and replace not only the manager, the staff is leaving, and there are so many things that will change.
