Warriors Tabbed As Landing Spot For 21 PPG Elite Breakout Star

The Golden State Warriors are in the final chapter of their dynasty led by superstar Stephen Curry, and while the franchise has made efforts in the past to draft top talent to keep their historic run going, a majority of their picks over the last few years haven’t panned out as planned.

However, if the Warriors’ middling record continues this year, they could be in line for a higher draft pick in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft, with a class that features some of the best talent in recent memory.

According to a recent mock draft on Bleacher Report by Jonathan Wasserman, Golden State is expected to pick Cameron Carr from Baylor University.

“His combination of shotmaking and explosive bounce creates a projectable off-ball scoring wing,he wrote on the dynamic guard.Though not tight or creative with his handle, Carr manages to get himself looks just by using his first step, long strides and serious elevation on his pull-ups, fallaways and three-ball.”

The 6’5guard has been a breakout star this college basketball season, putting up a career-high 21.3 points per game, which ranks 13th in the nation, along with 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists, and 1.8 blocks on 57.5% shooting in 12 appearances so far this year.

Warriors Expected To Pick Cameron Carr In Mock Draft

While the draft is still many months away, the Warriors adding a player like Carr could do wonders for their scoring trouble that’s been seen so far this season.

With a meteoric rise, Carr is putting up by far the best numbers of his college career in what is his first season with Baylor after transferring from Tennessee, where he played his first two years. After putting up 1.6 points and then 4.8 points per game in his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Volunteers, Carr has seen one of the biggest jumps in scoring in men’s college basketball, now top-15 with his 20+ point scoring average.

As a prospect, Carr brings a lot to the table. He is an explosive athlete, and as seen with his high rebounding and block averages as a guard, he’s a disruptor on both sides of the ball. Carr is shooting 41% from three-point range this season, and while there are still questions about whether he can continue that mark at the NBA level, his shot-making prowess has been on full display at Baylor.

“Cameron Carr is a long, athletic guard with a smooth shooting stroke and intriguing upside as a perimeter scorer,NBA Draft analyst Matt Babcock wrote on the guard. With his combination of length, vertical pop, and high-level confidence, he has already shown the ability to play on the wing and operate as a shot-making threat in Baylor’s system.”

Carr was ranked as the 20th best draft prospect in a recent article by ESPN. While his passing will likely need to see some improvement in the professional ranks, he has proven to have a ton of potential that the Warriors can mold if they choose to draft him.

Steph Curry Continues To Dominate, Moves Up All-Time Scoring List

At the same time that the Warriors could already be planning their 2026 NBA Draft, Curry continues to put in All-NBA-level performances for the team. It hasn’t necessarily contributed to winning, as seen with their 17-16 record, but the 37-year-old has been playing at a similar level to his MVP seasons a decade ago.

Most recently, after dropping 27 points on 53.3% shooting in a win over the Brooklyn Nets, Curry passed Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The shooter has now scored the 21st most points in league history, closely trailing John Havlicek, Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, and Russell Westbrook

Along with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Westbrook, Curry is the only other active player to score at least 26,000 career points. However, DeMar DeRozan is close behind, and could very likely join that group this season.

Curry’s 28.8 points per game this season puts him as having the highest scoring average for a player at least 37 years old. Going from a questionable point guard prospect with major ankle injury concerns to a four-time champion heralded as the best shooter in basketball history, Curry continues to put in dominant individual performances despite being in his 17th season.
