The Golden State Warriors are deep into the offseason, but one of their biggest questions still hasn’t been answered: what to do with Jonathan Kuminga.
Now 20 days into free agency, Kuminga remains unsigned as a restricted free agent—and a growing number of reports suggest that his future is unlikely to be in Golden State. According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Kuminga’s camp has made it clear they’re seeking a $30 million+ annual deal, and do not want to return to the Warriors. The team, meanwhile, is only comfortable offering a $20 million range deal that would allow for a potential sign-and-trade.
Siegel reports the Chicago Bulls remain a team of interest, noting:
“Dubs still holding out that a S&T with Bulls can happen. Ayo Dosunmu is a good player.”
What a Golden State–Chicago Trade Could Look Like

While Dosunmu makes sense as a target—he averaged 12.3 PPG and shot 40.3% from three last season—the Base Year Compensation rule complicates matching salaries. In a hypothetical deal where Kuminga signs for 4 years, $100M ($25M AAV), his outgoing salary for trade purposes would only be $12.5M.
That means a potential framework would look like:
-
Warriors receive: Ayo Dosunmu ($7.5M), Julian Phillips ($2.2M)
-
Bulls receive: Jonathan Kuminga (sign-and-trade, $22.5M first-year salary; $11.25M base-year trade value)
The Warriors would gain two athletic, switchable wings to shore up depth and stay under the second apron. Meanwhile, the Bulls would land a 22-year-old wing with untapped upside—coming off a playoff stretch where Kuminga averaged 20.8 PPG in the Conference Semifinals.
A new report from Jake Fischer also notes the Bulls and Kuminga have mutual interest, and that his camp is “hopeful” a deal with Chicago can get done. For now, Chicago is prioritizing Josh Giddey, but adding both him and Kuminga this offseason remains possible.
Warriors, Bulls Seen as Clean Fit in Potential Kuminga Deal
The Bulls remain the most frequently linked team in a potential sign-and-trade for Kuminga. But the framework has taken several forms. The Warriors have reportedly shown interest in Coby White. They even briefly considered taking back Nikola Vucevic to make the salary math work. Still, they’re believed to have little interest in the 33-year-old center at this stage, per Jake Fischer.
Among all the possibilities, the Bulls still make the most sense. They want a high-upside piece. The Warriors want flexibility. As long as Kuminga remains unsigned, a sign-and-trade remains on the table.
