WATCH: Kansas State S Wayne Jones taken off on stretcher after scary hit

Kansas State Wildcats safety Wayne Jones was taken off the field on a stretcher following a scary hit during the team’s Week 2 game against Arkansas State.

During the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game, the Red Wolves’ offense was driving down the field vying for the go-ahead score with only a few minutes left in the contest. When running back Jamal Jones broke free for a huge gain, Kansas State’s defensive back Kiondre Thomas dove in and hit his leg.

As Jamal Jones tried to maintain his balance and lowered his center of gravity, Wayne Jones dropped his head and made direct contact with the running back’s shoulder. Kansas State’s sophomore safety immediately collapsed to the ground, lying motionless on the field.

Kansas State’s medical staff immediately rushed to Jones’ side before calling for additional assistance. After several minutes, a stretcher was brought out with the 6-foot safety slowly flipped onto a board and then put on the court.

Kansas State strong safety Wayne Jones is down and entirely motionless. They’ve got a stretcher and the cart out for him. This looks like a terrible injury.

FOX’s live coverage cut back to the studio during the extended delay until Jones was off the field and being transported to the hospital. While Kansas State would go on to lose the game, following Arkansas State’s go-ahead touchdown with 38 seconds left, there is now far greater concern for Jones.
