Arsenal have announced that Michelle Agyemang has rejoined Brighton on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Agyemang starred this summer as Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses successfully defended their European Championship crown to become the first England team to win a major trophy on foreign soil in history.

The 19-year-old forward did not start a single match over the course of the tournament, but made a monumental impact with her performances from the bench – scoring dramatic late equalisers against Sweden and Italy in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

After the Lionesses defeated Spain on penalties in a nerve-shredding final in Basel, Agyemang picked up the award for the young player of the tournament.

But with Agyemang yet to establish herself as a regular at Arsenal, she will continue her development on the south coast with Brighton, where she impressed last season.

The teenager racked up five goals in 22 appearances for Brighton over the 2024/25 campaign and the Seagulls made it clear they would be keen to extend her loan spell for a further year during talks with Arsenal.

‘Everyone at Arsenal wishes Michelle the best of luck for this next stage in her development,’ a statement on the Gunners’ official website read.

Arsenal Women’s director of football, Clare Wheatley, confirmed that the decision was made after private discussions with Agyemang and her family.

According to Wheatley, the move will give Agyemang a ‘further opportunity to develop and grow’ as both a footballer and an individual.

‘We’re so proud of Michelle’s achievements this summer and throughout her journey at Arsenal, from her first steps in our academy through to our first-team squad,’ she said.

‘After discussing closely with Michelle and her family, we have all agreed that this move will provide Michelle with a further opportunity to develop and grow, as she continues to progress as a young player and person.

‘We wish Michelle every success at Brighton and look forward to welcoming her back to Arsenal at the end of her loan.’

Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic, meanwhile, is ‘thrilled’ to welcome Agyemang back into the fold after her ‘incredible’ summer with the Lionesses.

‘We are thrilled to welcome Michelle back for another season,’ Vidosic told the club’s official website.

‘We loved working with her last year, and seeing how much she progressed as part of the squad.

‘What she achieved during the summer with England was incredible but not surprising.

‘She has the character, work ethic and relentless nature of a champion. As a club we’re incredibly proud of her.

‘She was a pivotal part of our record-breaking season last year and we’re excited for what this new season looks like with her in our attack.’
