Why Draymond Green Is Right About Warriors’ Title Chances

The Golden State Warriors aren’t done yet. Until Stephen Curry retires, it’s impossible to count them out. Yes, they have an older roster. Yes, injuries are a concern. However, between Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, they boast one of the best trios in the NBA.

They also made sure to build an elite supporting cast this offseason and have trade candidates in Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody to further bolster their roster.

Green has long been Curry’s biggest advocate and believer. He also knows the end of the ride is around the corner, but it’s not over yet.

Draymond Green Gets Honest About Title Chance

Between the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Oklahoma City Thunder, this is the best the Western Conference has been in a long, long time.

Even with their talent, the Warriors have a tough road ahead of them, although Green is remaining positive, convinced that they can hoist the fifth title of their dynasty.

Unfortunately, Batman [Curry] went down with a hamstring injury, and it kind of changed the outlook on things a little bit,” said Green of last year’s playoff run, clearly convinced that a healthy Curry would have been enough for the Warriors to go even deeper. “We think we’re even in a better position now to win a championship than we were last year. Last year, Jimmy didn’t even know any defensive terminologies. We were just making it work.”

According to FanDuel, the Warriors have the 11th best odds (+3000) to win the title. Still, don’t count them out.

Numbers Back Up Draymond Green

If we told you that the team with a .742 winning percentage was coming back with the same roster, would you pick them to be title favorites?

What about a team that was plus-10 per one hundred possessions? The team with the best defense in the league? The highest free throw rate? The Warriors were just that after adding Butler last February.

Yeah, we’d have some confidence in them.

Add in Al Horford, an elite veteran presence who can space the floor, protect the rim, and knows what it takes to win the NBA Finals, and the Warriors should be ready to compete for the Finals.

If Kuminga isn’t traded, it will only be because he continued to take a leap. Brandin Podziemski seems poised to bounce back from a down season last year. The main cast of stars is still in place, as well.

Yes, the Warriors are old and possibly injury prone, but until injuries and ailments pile up, why count them out?
