Why Mitchell Robinson is Annoyed With Knicks Teammates

Veteran center Mitchell Robinson disapproves of his New York Knicks teammates’ musical choices.

The shot-blocking big man took to social media on Thursday to share a video in which teammates Tyler Kolek and Mikal Bridges were heard vibing to DMX’s 2003 classic “Where the Hood At” in the Knicks locker room.

Clearly annoyed with the song, Robinson could be heard asking his teammates,
“Hey man, what’s wrong with you? Aw hell naw.”

In his IG caption, Robinson wrote, “Here we go with this music again” and “Morgan Wallen please?” — urging his teammates to play the latter, a country singer.

Mitchell Robinson Loves Country Music

In a 2023 interview with New York Post, Robinson spoke of his affinity for the country lifestyle, which includes the outdoors, fishing, country music, trucks and animals. During the chat with Stefan Bondy, Robinson spoke of being a fan of Morgan Wallen.

“Off the water, Robinson most appreciates the tunes of Morgan Wallen, a country music artist whose singles include ‘Redneck Love Song,” wrote Bondy.

“If you followed my TikTok, you’d know that,” Robinson said of his fandom for Wallen.

Robinson, who grew up in the countryside of Louisiana, explained why he chose to settle in White Plains rather than New York City.

“[NYC] is just too fast-paced for me,” he said in 2023. “It’s just not me. It’s too bunched up. I like space.”

A Starter Once Again

Last season, Robinson came off the bench, with Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau choosing to start Kal-Anthony Towns at center, along with Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart. However, that plan changed during the final four games of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers, when he returned to the starting unit for defensive purposes.

Thibodeau’s successor, Mike Brown, has doubled down on the same strategy, keeping Robinson in the starting unit, while bringing Hart off the bench.

Robinson has been a monster in his limited playing time as a starter, averaging a staggering 8.9 rebounds in just 17.1 minutes, including 5.4 offensive boards. The big man is a key reason why the Knicks rank fourth in the league in rebounding percentage and fifth in paint points allowed (44.0).

Last season, the Knicks were horrible at protecting the rim, allowing 50.2 points per game, ranking 20th in the league. They were horrible in most defensive metrics, mostly because Towns was the starting center over Robinson, who missed most of the regular season with an injury.
