Yankees’ Aaron Boone Breaks Silence on New York’s Recent Play

Every top-tier team has a point where they struggle during the long 162-game season. Teams like the New York Yankees, who are the defending AL Champions, will have their consistency disrupted. Occasionally, the Yankees could find themselves in a rough spot, but these past few games have been shockingly bad.

Yankees Hit a New Low With Their Bats

The New York Yankees have lost five consecutive games since Friday, the 13th. They’ve been swept by the Boston Red Sox on the road and have dropped two home games against the Los Angeles Angels. While their pitching and their defense have been great, their offense has been beyond terrible.

In the last five games, the Yankees scored a total of four runs. New York hasn’t scored a run in the last 29 innings played, going to the second game of the road series against the Red Sox.

This is an alarming slump for the Yankees, who are one of the most established and powerful teams at the plate. During the last three games, New York has accounted for a batting average of .170 and an on-base percentage of .231, and struck out 33 times.

The latest loss from the Yankees came in Tuesday’s 4-0 loss to the Angels. The Yankees accounted for four hits and two walks while striking out 12 times.

Manager Aaron Boone Talks About the Team’s Process

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone opened up about the team’s massive struggles at the plate and how it is just part of a process in the press conference following Tuesday’s loss.

“That is what we are. We are one of the best offenses in the league and had a tough few days…maybe feeling those ‘hey, (we) got to get something going in that’, we got to let it happen. We got to go up and just really focus on having quality at-bats and that will happen. Hopefully, tomorrow’s that day.”

“If we just focus on what we do and our process. These guys are excellent, excellent at turning the page. Tough few days, no question. Today I felt like pressing a little bit in at some at-bats. We’ll come in with the right process and really focusing on getting really quality at-bats. We start to stack those, we’ll take off.”

Through the first 67 games played, before the five-game losing streak, the Yankees scored 366 runs and accounted for 591 hits, 108 home runs, 274 walks, a batting average of .260, an on-base percentage of .344, and a slugging percentage of .464. After the major struggles at the plate in the last five games, the Yankees dropped in productivity and lost their title as the top batting team in the league. The Yankees entered Wednesday, June 18, ranked third in runs accounted for (370), seventh in batting average (.253), and second in on-base percentage (.336).

Yankee fans are waiting impatiently to get their productivity back at the plate. Boone understands that this rough streak at the plate is due to the long season and that the team will regain some momentum. While this may be the case for Boone’s Yankees, it is still an embarrassing look for the power-hitting team.

The Yankees will play their final two games against the Angels on Wednesday and Thursday.
