The New York Yankees have had a slow offseason to this point. As always, the team from the Bronx is operating under a microscope with every move they make (or don’t make). However, manager Aaron Boone recently provided fans with some assurance amid MLB’s hot stove season.
New York is still awaiting free agency decisions from both Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt, but the Yankees’ high-profile free agents like Devin Williams and Luke Weaver have already walked out the door. Bellinger is considered priority No.1, but if they are unable to retain Bellinger and don’t sign a top outfield free agent, Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office will start facing some major scrutiny. So, what did Aaron Boone say to give fans some semblance of assurance heading into next season?

Aaron Boone Believes Yankees “Have a Really Good Team”
Take these comments however you will, Yankees fans.
After speaking with New York Post reporter Greg Joyce, Aaron Boone indicated that the Yankees are ‘probably not finished’ making additions this offseason, and then added this about the team’s current roster construction:
“The one thing is, I know we have a really good team right now â we have a lot of really good players on our roster,” Boone said.
He also added the notion that often times these free agent decisions can take some time due to both parties needing to reach an agreement.
“It always takes more than just us to tango. It takes sometimes other clubs, obviously free agents and the opportunities they have in front of them. However it lands, my expectation is that we’re going to be really good and that’s how we’ll prepare.”

Is Aaron Boone Right With His Statement?
Issuing the sentiment that the Yankees aren’t ‘finished’ would mean they’ve already started, which is debatable at this juncture. New York has brought back Ryan Yarborough and Amed Rosario, but hasn’t brought in any entirely new faces on lucrative deals.
Not to play devil’s advocate for Boone, but when faced with these tough questions about the Yankees’ spending and how they are managing the offseason, he is sort of backed into a corner because he’s not Brian Cashman or another high-ranking front office executive, who ultimately makes the decisions on who to sign and for how much.
New York is attempting to build on a solid regular season, where they won 94 games and defeated the Red Sox in the playoffs, but with the other AL East teams (Blue Jays, Orioles) being so aggressive in the early going this winter, it has drawn a lot of attention to when the Yankees will start doing the same.
Aaron Boone’s job may be in jeopardy if the Yankees get off to a slow start in 2026, and New York’s front office isn’t doing too much to help his cause at the moment.
