Yankees Get Horrible News on 300 Home Run Slugger Trade Deadline Target

On paper, the Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the more talented teams in Major League Baseball. Even now, the Diamondbacks haven’t been bad, sitting at 41-39. Now, while that isn’t ideal for the talent they have on their roster, Arizona has been derailed by injuries, and it’s tough to blame the organization too much.

However, for the New York Yankees, and it might sound bad, but they need the injuries to have an impact on how they perform over the next few weeks prior to the trade deadline.

When looking at potential options, however, The Athletics’ Brendan Kuty doesn’t believe that the Yankees will have an opportunity to trade for Eugenio Suarez, despite the fact that the Yankees would love to have him from the Diamondbacks’ roster.

He believes that the Diamondbacks will stay within striking distance in the Wild Card race in the National League, and moving on from Suarez just wouldn’t make much sense from their perspective.

“Eugenio Suárez could be the best option available, but the Arizona Diamondbacks figure to remain within striking distance of the National League wild-card race, and they might be loath to trade a key bat. The Colorado Rockies should sell anything they can at the trade deadline, which should make Ryan McMahon available. But he’s a great defender with middling offensive talent, and he’ll be owed $32 million through 2027,” he wrote.

Will Suarez Be Available?

It isn’t out of the question that the New York Yankees won’t have an opportunity to trade for Suarez, who recently hit his 300th home run last week.

When speaking with Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen discussed everything the team has dealt with.

He added that the team is dealing with some major health issues, but from an internal perspective, they believe they’ll recover in the near future. If that’s the case, they should be in a position to make the postseason, at the very least.

Remember now, this team was in the World Series just a few seasons ago.

“I think we’re going to have to stay healthy from this point moving forward,” Hazen told ESPN before his team faced the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. “I do think there’s a critical mass of injuries that happens that we would have to at least be mindful of, but I still think we have every opportunity to be competitive and we’re going to get these guys back.”

Teams Are Waiting for the Diamondbacks to Sell

However, while the Arizona Diamondbacks are dealing with these injuries and still playing relatively well, teams like the New York Yankees and others have made calls. He’s admitted that teams are trying to poach his players in trade talks, and he understands where they’re coming from.

“The sharks are in the water,” Hazen said, answering the question with a smile. “Of course they are. I don’t blame them.

“They all preface it with ‘Hey, how ya doing?’ I mean, look, we’re over .500 and people are calling asking if you’re selling. It’s a tough phone call to make but they have to do their job and they’re making those phone calls.”

He didn’t specify who could be available or who teams are calling on, but for the New York Yankees, having Suarez in their lineup would be a step in the right direction as they look to return to the World Series and complete the job this time around.
