Yankees GM Brian Cashman Shares Major Update on Kyle Tucker at Winter Meetings

By all indications, the Yankees will be back to big-game hunting this offseason.

Will that include Kyle Tucker?

With the Winter Meetings set to begin Monday in Orlando, Fla., general manager Brian Cashman weighed in on rumors surrounding the free agent outfielder, who is expected to be one of the most coveted players available.

Tucker Visited AL East Rival Team

Tucker made waves last week when it was reported that he visited the Blue Jays at their spring training complex in Dunedin, Fla.

The Blue Jays, on the heels of making the World Series, are expected to be one of the top suitors for the star outfielder, who turns 29 next month and is likely fetch a contract well north of $300 million.

When asked about the Blue Jays hosting Tucker, Cashman revealed that the Yankees have not gone to the same lengths in their courtship. But that’s not to say things can’t change.

“Brian Cashman said Tucker has NOT visited Steinbrenner Field,” Chris Kirschner of The Athletic said on X. “He did not say whether or not he expects him to visit at all.”

Yankees Seek to Balance Left-Handed Heavy Lineup

Tucker spent last season with the Cubs, slashing .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs, 73 RBI and 25 stolen bases. He was named an All-Star for the fourth time in his career and won his second Silver Slugger Award.

The Yankees are widely expected to be in the mix for Tucker, but they’ll have plenty of competition. The two-time defending World Series champion Dodgers and Mets have also been connected to Tucker. According to The Athletic, the Orioles might even make a play.

In addition to Tucker, the Yankees have prioritized bringing back outfielder Cody Bellinger, who batted .272 with 29 homers and 98 RBI in his first season in the Bronx. If Bellinger returns, the Yankees would have Trent Grisham and Jasson Dominguez alongside him in the outfield. All of them, plus Tucker, hit from the same side of the plate, leading Cashman to suggest the Yankees’ lineup is “too left-handed.”
