Yankees Make Notable Weather Announcement Before Marlins Game

The New York Yankees are finishing up a three-game set with the Miami Marlins on Sunday.

However, the game is being affected by the weather in the northeastern United States. A few moments before the Marlins-Yankees game was set to get underway, the Yankees’ social media team made a notable announcement about the game:

“Please be advised we do not intend to start today’s game on time. Information will be provided as it is received.”

When Will the Marlins-Yankees Series Finale Begin?

GettyMax Fried delivered 6.1 scoreless innings on Opening Day, making Yankees history in his start with the team.

The expectation is that the Marlins-Yankees series finale will be delayed until at least 3:00 p.m., but the radar looks pretty nasty rolling through New York, so a postponement to a later date is possible.

Max Fried is set to get the start, but that’s also subject to change if the delay is lengthy enough. New York is riding a four-game winning streak, have started the 2026 campaign 7-1, and will be going for the sweep of the Marlins on Sunday.

The strong start has largely been backed by strong pitching. The Yankees have allowed the fewest runs in MLB.

It’s a little bit more difficult to reschedule interleague games such as the Marlins-Yankees due to conflicting travel schedules, so it also wouldn’t be a shock if the series finale between the two starts somewhere near 4-5 p.m. just to get the game in.

MLB World Reacts to Marlins-Yankees Rain Delay

As you can imagine, the rain delay is drawing a strong reaction from the social media world. Here are some of the best:

@GlobalinsightsN: Stay dry, everyone at the stadium! Hope the weather clears up soon so we can go for the series sweep.
@goes_pop4697:  Yankees and Marlins don’t play each other again and coordinating a day they’re both off would be a major PITA. They’ll wait as long as it takes
@tomfossati: This game shouldn’t be in NYC in early April. Does MLB realize Miami has a [roof]?
