The New York Yankees are predicted to move on from Jazz Chisholm Jr. and replace him with a surprising star infielder.
Chisholm’s name has come up in trade rumors, which is a bit of a surprise, as he’s been an impact player for the Yankees. Yet, with his name in trade rumors, ESPN MLB insider David Schoenfield predicts New York will sign Bo Bichette from their arch-rival Toronto Blue Jays, to replace Chisholm.
“Prediction: Yankees. We’re trying to read the tea leaves here and those Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade rumors keep popping up,” Schoenfield wrote, in an article published on Wednesday. “Perhaps the Yankees are trying to clear space for a new infielder?
“Bichette could either provide another option at shortstop to Anthony Volpe, who struggled at the plate in 2025 and saw his defense regress as well, or play second, with Jose Caballero still around to back up both positions.”
New York signing Bichette would be a major surprise, and it would be a massive move. Not only would the Yankees get better by signing Bichette, but New York would also be hurting the Blue Jays, who would lose an impact bat from their lineup.
Schoenfield predicts Bichette will sign a five-year, $150 million deal with the Yankees. The star shortstop can move over to second base to replace Chisholm and give New York another potent bat.
Yankees Listening to Trade Offers on Chisholm
Chisholm is in the final year of team control, and his name has come up in trade rumors.
When the report came out, it was a surprise as Chisholm is a key part of the Yankees’ success. Yet, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported that New York is listening to trade offers on Chisholm.
“A second baseman is going to move. Maybe multiple. There is too much interest in Ketel Marte, Brendan Donovan and Brandon Lowe for a deal not to be consummated. It’s not just them, either. Jake Cronenworth is available. The Yankees have listened on Jazz Chisholm Jr.,” Passan wrote.
The Yankees acquired Chisholm from the Miami Marlins in July of 2024, and since then, he has bounced around the infield, but is their starting second baseman.
Last season, Chisholm hit .242 with 31 home runs and 80 RBIs, while in the playoffs, he hit .182 with 1 home run.
Brian Cashman Not Ruling Out Trading Chisholm
After Chisholm’s name was brought up in trade rumors, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was asked about it.
Cashman didn’t shut down the idea, as he said he’s open-minded on everything. But, he did say Chisholmis a key part of the Yankees roster.
“He is somebody who I think is currently part of the solution, someone who has made us better by getting him two deadlines ago and giving us athleticism,” Cashman said. “He’s above average. He’s an All-Star second baseman. Great defense. Steals bags. Power. All that stuff. So he’s been a good get. But at the same time, the collection of all, whether it’s third base, second base, first base, catcher, center field … they’re all left-handed.
“Again, we’ll be open-minded. My default is that these are all individually good players. We acquired them for a reason — because we wanted them — and they have been productive with us. … But the job is to be open-minded to anything, everything, regardless.”
Chisholm is a two-time MLB All-Star.
