The New York Yankees have had a slow start to MLB’s free agency. As the Winter Meetings are now over, that doesn’t mean the hot stove season is going to cool off. AL East foes in the Red Sox, Orioles, and Blue Jays have already made big splashes this offseason, and many fans and analysts are wondering when the Yankees will make meaningful additions.
New York has big decisions to make regarding Cody Bellinger and Luke Weaver. If they are unable to retain Bellinger, another potential outfield target could be top free agent Kyle Tucker.

Kyle Tucker Predicted to Land $360 Million Deal
Kyle Tucker’s free agency sweepstakes are one of the biggest across MLB at this point. The four-time All-Star is considered the biggest free agent on the market, and would be a huge splash for whoever opens up the checkbook for him.
A recent ‘fresh predictions’ by Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly has the New York Yankees landing Kyle Tucker in a 10-year, $360 million deal, which would be the biggest contract handed out this offseason.
Kelly predicts that the Yankees win the Tucker sweepstakes, but he’s curious, like many other MLB fans, why the market is moving slowly on Kyle Tucker.

“For being the consensus top free agent available this offseason, things have been surprisingly quiet on Kyle Tucker. The incumbent Chicago Cubs seemingly aren’t going to mount any real attempt to retain an outfielder entering his age-29 season, a bizarre strategy from a franchise that doesn’t flex its financial might nearly as much as it should.”
So, if the Cubs are out on Kyle Tucker, this is a perfect opportunity to make amends with a slow offseason by making the biggest splash to this point.

Kyle Tucker Is a Highly Productive Player
The 28-year-old Tucker is set to turn 29 in January and is in the middle of his prime. He’s been named to four straight All-Star appearances, two Silver Slugger awards, and has an OPS+ of 110 or more in every season since 2019. He came up with the Houston Astros, but was traded to the Cubs last offseason.
In 136 games this season, Tucker hit 22 home runs, drove in 73 runs, and posted an OPS+ of 143. After starting the campaign on an absolute tear, MLB insiders across the league believed that Tucker’s free agency value may exceed $500 million. That’s not to say he isn’t worth $500 million, but there are also outfielders like Cody Bellinger on the market, who is likely going to settle for a lower AAV than Tucker.
BaseballReference.com projects Tucker to hit 23 home runs and post a .866 OPS in 2026.
The Yankees need to be in the running for Kyle Tucker and offer him a contract he can’t refuse.
