Bryce Young Accomplished Rare Feat Against the Seahawks

In what could have been one of the biggest days in the franchise in the last decade, the Carolina Panthers laid an egg against the Seattle Seahawks in a 27-10 defeat.

The Panthers had the opportunity to win the NFC South at home and knock off the current one seed in the conference, showing they could make some noise in the playoffs.  However, in a game that was close for the majority of it, the Seahawks outscored the Panthers 24-7 in the second half.

One of the biggest culprits in the Panthers’ defeat was their listless offense. The team totaled just 139 yards and went 1-11 on third down. Quarterback Bryce Young also didn’t just have a bad game, but a historically poor one.

The Wrong Rare Feat

Bryce Young has been a bit of an enigma to figure out during his career, and especially this season. Some weeks, he looks exactly like the quarterback the Panthers traded up to select with the first pick in 2023, and other weeks, he seems like the quarterback who had been benched multiple times. Against the Seahawks, Young dropped a dude.

ESPN NFL analyst Ben Solak on Twitter wrote about a rare feat that Young accomplished, and not one that he would be proud of.

“Bryce Young failed to complete a pass over five air yards against the Seahawks on Sunday. 0 for 4 with an INT on such attempts,Solak wrote.Young is only the third QB of the last 20 seasons to attempt at least 20 passes but have 0 completions beyond five yards downfield in a game.”

Even if the Panthers defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and win the NFC South on Saturday, Young will need to be much better for the Panthers to do anything in the playoffs.

Young Already Moved On

Coming back from adversity has been a significant part of Bryce Young’s career in the NFL so far, and this week is no different. Despite a poor performance, everything the Panthers want is still in front of them.

Young’s even-tempered mindset has allowed him to bounce back from benching and make fourth-quarter comebacks his specialty.  Young is going to lean on that mentality this week as the Panthers look to win the division without needing help.

Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, in his December 30 article, wrote about Young’s ability to quickly move on from a game, whether it’s a positive or negative outcome.

You’re not going to like the answer,Young replied with a grin. But it’s really not any different. Again, good and bad come with sports, and I think that’s the maturity you have to have at this level. Coaches challenge us with it, and you really have to take it to heart, good or bad, you feel like things went well or didn’t, you have to flush it the same way. You have to have the same approach. So, I’ve been trying to do that for a while now, so, at this point, it’s the same.”

Young has shown all season his resilience, and he’ll need to show it once again to accomplish a rare feat in recent Panthers history, but this time one that is positive.
