The Los Angeles Dodgers are heading back to California with the World Series tied up at 1-1. This is off the back of starting pitcher ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto‘s second consecutive complete game. The Dodgers’ bats did what they needed to to secure the 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night after getting lit up in Game 1.
With their Game 2 win in hand, one analyst is urging the team to exercise a contract option they are calling a “no-brainer.”
The Dodgers’ $10 Million ‘No Brainer’ Club Option
Noah Camras of Dodgers Nation is urging the California-based MLB club to exercise its $10 million option on third base infielder Max Muncy. Camras explains why in a social media post he published during Game 2 of the World Series.
“Max Muncy has a $10 million club option this offseason. That’s a no-brainer for the Dodgers to pick up,” Camras wrote on October 25th. “Muncy has said he wants to retire a Dodger. The Dodgers need to make that a reality. He’s a big-time player and continues to come up in big moments.”
Muncy was one of two Dodgers to hit a solo home run in Game 2. The other solo shot hopped off the bat of catcher Will Smith.
The Dodgers’ third baseman has connected for eight hits in 35 at-bats this postseason. Muncy also has two RBIs and two HR’s.
Max Muncy Wants to Stay With the Dodgers

It takes two to tango, but it’s a lot easier when at least one party is enthusiastic about maintaining the working relationship.
On Muncy’s side of things, he would love to stay with the Dodgers. He believes he has at least a couple of years left in the tank.
“I would hope I have several big years left in me,” He said to Dodgers Nation in June. “The goal is to focus on the here and now. In terms of how that works out, I can’t worry about that right now. I just try to focus on what I can for today. How can I get better today?”
“What do I need to do on the cage, in the field, in the weight room, in the training room, trying to keep my body healthy?”
If Muncy can still be effective as a player and stay healthy, he wants to close out his career as a member of the Dodgers.
“I don’t think it’s any secret that I would like to retire here. I’ve made that very well known.”
What is a Club Option & How Much is Muncy’s?
GettyShould the Dodgers pick up this $10 million option?
According to MLB.com, “A club option is an optional year at the end of the contract which may be guaranteed at the discretion of the club. Should the club exercise the option, the player is considered signed for the following season at that option’s value. Contracts can contain multiple option years.”
Muncy and the Dodgers agreed to a two-year deal on November 2, 2023, worth $24 million. Sportsnet reported that the deal would pay the third baseman $7 million in 2024 and $12 million in 2025, in addition to a $5 million signing bonus.
His contract has a $10 million option with no buyout. So, if the club declines to pick up Muncy’s option, they will not owe him any more money.
Muncy has made his feelings clear, leaving the ball in the Dodgers’ glove.
