Two earthquakes in quick succession near San Juan Bautista were felt in the South Bay on Thanksgiving afternoon.
A 3.9 quake was recorded at 12:48 p.m. and a 4.0 quake at 12:57, the U.S. Geological Survey said. A 2.7 was logged at 12:10 p.m. in the same area, along Towne Creek about 3 miles south of San Juan Bautista.
The USGS Did You Feel It survey recorded a few hundred responses in half an hour, most from the Salinas area, but some for the bigger quake from as far away as Fremont.
Thursday’s quakes were about 12 miles south of the Gilroy epicenter of three that struck on Wednesday, the largest of them also 4.0.
