The 40-year-old singer was one of the six female celebrities onboard the Blue Origin flight. The crew similarly included pilot Lauren Sanchez, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, broadcast journalist Gayle King, and film producer Kerianna Flynn.

The New Shepard rocket launched from Blue Origin’s West Texas launch site, marking the first all-female space crew since cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova – the first woman in space – completed a three-day solo space flight in 1963. By comparison, NS-31’s flight lasted just 11 minutes.

Following the capsule’s return to solid ground, Katy Perry emerged brandishing a daisy flower before bending over to kiss the ground. The gesture was later mimicked by Gayle King, who said she “appreciates the ground” after returning to Earth.

Pop Icon Calls Trip to Space “The Hightest High”

After deboarding NS-31, Perry told gathered reporters she feels “super connected to love.” The “Woman’s World” singer added that the experience showed her that you “never know how much love is inside you, how much love you have to give and how loved you are.”

As the craft began its descent back to Earth after travelling 62 miles above its surface to the Karman Line, crew members reported that Perry began to sing Louis Armstrong’s 1967 hit “What A Wonderful World.”

“I have always covered that song in the past and obviously my higher self is always steering the ship,” Perry said about the moment. “I think that it’s not about me or me singing my songs, it was about a collective energy in there. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it.”

The pop-icon similarly told reporters that she intends to write a new song about her legendary space flight, saying that the experience was “the highest high.”

On live stream coverage of the launch, Perry’s 4-year-old daughter Daisy could be seen watching as her mother’s capsule touched ground and safety crews rushed in.

Perry, who shares her daughter with fiance Orlando Bloom, told reporters after landing that “this experience is second to being a mom. That’s why it was hard for me to go because that’s all my love right there, and I have to surrender and trust that the universe is going to take care of me and protect me and also my family and daughter. I am full up from being able to get that gift of being a mom, and to go to space is incredible, and I wanted to model courage, worthiness, and fearlessness.”
