A Michael Jordan jersey from his final championship season with the Chicago Bulls sold Tuesday for $12.26 million, setting a record as the most expensive piece of game-worn Jordan memorabilia ever sold at auction.
The white No. 23 Bulls jersey, worn by Jordan during Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals, was sold through Joopiter, an online auction house founded by musician Pharrell Williams. The buyer was not identified.
Jordan wore the jersey June 7, 1998, when the Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz 96-54 at the United Center to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Chicago went on to win the championship in six games, giving the team its sixth title in eight seasons and Jordan’s final championship with the Bulls.
The 1997-98 season was later chronicled in ESPN Films’ “The Last Dance” documentary series.
The jersey is the only publicly known white jersey from a Bulls victory in the 1998 Finals to have been offered for sale, according to Joopiter’s website. The auction house had expected to sell the jersey for between $10 million and $15 million, and it received one bid before the auction closed on Tuesday.
The sale surpassed Jordan’s previous auction record, set in 2022 when his red jersey from Game 1 of the same Finals series sold for $10.1 million at Sotheby’s.
Jordan memorabilia has long commanded millions at auction. In May 2025, a jersey and shorts worn during the 1992-93 season sold for $2.6 million at Heritage Auctions. The uniform was photo-matched to 17 games, including games from the season when Jordan and the Bulls completed their first three-peat, as well as an appearance on a 1993 Sports Illustrated cover.
A year earlier, a collection of Jordan memorabilia at Sotheby’s brought in $8.5 million, led by a 1996-97 Bulls jersey that sold for $4.7 million. Six Air Jordan sneakers worn during the final games of each of the Bulls’ six championship series also sold for $8 million at Sotheby’s in 2024.
