A major Canadian grocery company specializing in Asian products and “viral treats” has announced a third planned Bay Area location.
T&T Supermarket, the largest Asian grocery chain in Canada, recently revealed that it will open a 52,000-square foot store in Millbrae, just south of San Francisco International Airport. The supermarket will debut in Friendship Plaza at 95 Murchison Drive and 135-143 S. El Camino Real, with an opening date scheduled for winter 2026.
This is now the third T&T Supermarket in the works in the region, with other spots planned for San Jose’s Westgate Center in the first half of 2026 and San Francisco’s City Center at the end of 2026. The San Mateo Daily Journal was among the first to break the news on Millbrae.
“Finding large retail-format real estate in the Bay Area takes time,” Tina Lee, the company’s CEO, said in a press release. “I have had my eye on Millbrae for a while – it’s a great spot to serve families living in the Peninsula and well spaced between our San Francisco and San Jose locations.”
The newest store seems well-placed, demographically, as more than half of Millbrae’s population is Asian. There are already several Asian groceries in the area, such as two Pacific Supermarkets to the north and a Suruki Supermarket to the south.
T&T Supermarket was founded in 1993 in Vancouver and now operates more than three-dozen stores across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. It has two outlets in Washington State, and plans to develop Southern California groceries in Irvine and Chino Hills.
Aside from produce, meats, prepackaged Asian products and spirits like soju and sake, T&T Supermarket is known for its “Crispy Papa Chicken.” This is a “whole fried chicken that’s marinated in garlic seasoning and is only $12 (Canadian),” according to a Vancouver food reviewer on Instagram. The whole chicken is “available 2 or 3 times a day in very limited quantities,” the reviewer says, and shoppers “might have to fight with the aunties to get your hands on one.”
Here are some of the other amenities at the Millbrae outlet, according to the press release:
• “Made-to-Order Street Food: Savor authentic flavors of Asia with freshly made Chinese crepes and Taiwanese-style rice rolls.”
• “Bakery Delights: T&T bakery offers over 150 varieties of freshly baked bread and 50+ desserts and pastries, including viral treats like Napoleon Portuguese Egg Tarts, Mango Pomelo Swiss Rolls and Lava Mochi Puffs.”
• “Restaurant Quality Food at Supermarket Prices: Customers can enjoy a self-serve hot food bar featuring authentic Asian dishes. The Kitchen is known for specialties such as Peking Duck, Crispy Papa Chicken, a BBQ station and a Sushi Counter.”
• “T&T Private Label Products: Shoppers can enjoy over 200 T&T Private Label products, including customer favorites such as juicy pork soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), Korean kalbi marinade, green onion pancakes and seaweed snacks.”
The company said the Millbrae grocery is expected to create 350 jobs for the local community.
