Two Chicago police vehicles collided with SUVs minutes apart Wednesday night on the Far South Side, injuring five people including three officers.
Just before 7:30 p.m., officers were responding to a call of shots fired when their marked police SUV with lights and sirens activated crashed into a black SUV at an intersection in the 500 block of West 107th Street in Roseland, police said.
Charges were pending for a man and woman, 32 and 31, who fled the scene but were taken into custody near the scene of the crash, which left two officers with ‘minor’ injuries, officials said.
Minutes later, another squad car with lights and sirens activated was responding to assist an officer crashed into a black SUV less than two miles away in the 11500 block of South State Street in West Pullman, police said.
An officer in the squad car also suffered injuries considered to be minor and was taken to a hospital in good condition, officials said.
An 88-year-old driver and 32-year-old passenger in the SUV were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for evaluation, police said. Both were listed in good condition.
