A driver has taken strong measures to try and protect their car from thieves – but seems to have made a glaring oversight.
The homeowner, who hasn’t been named, has perhaps unwittingly gone viral on social media after installing two bollards at the end of their drive.
Whether to protect their car from thieves or to prevent others from parking on their drive without permission, the motivation for the installation would be understandable to many.
But it appears the driver has failed to consider the large lawns located on either side of the driveway – making the bollards pretty pointless.
Any car thief or person desperate enough to try and park on their driveway could simply mount the curb and drive over the grass.
The image was shared on X by Dr Helen Ingram, who commented sarcastically: ‘These bollards should keep their car secure.’
The post has received a lot of attention since it was uploaded last week, racking up 1.5million views and being liked 17,000 times.
Other X users seemed to enjoy the assumption that a potential car thief would be put off stealing the vehicle by a reluctance to drive over a nicely mowed lawn.
But one person suggested the bollards could be effective if two cars were parked on the driveway instead of one, meaning there could be some logic to the installation after all.
They commented: ‘Once both are in the drive, there is no room for manoeuvre. It is also used for caravans and camper vans. Not to mention commercial vans.’
