Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams anticipates being calm and cool when he makes his NFL debut Sunday against the Titans. He’s dreamed of this moment since he was 9 years old, but he was at ease Wednesday when he thought about playing at Soldier Field.
“When feet touch the grass, it’ll be business as usual,” Williams said before practice.
He also was asked if he was comfortable with the idea of the Bears not necessarily putting high expectations on his production in the opener.
“Run the ball and win the game? That’s it,” he said with a smile. “If we decide the offensive line is dominating, wide receivers are dominating blocks … five yards a pop, it’s hard to beat that.”
The Bears drafted Williams No. 1 overall in April hoping to end their extensive drought when it comes to finding a franchise quarterback. Neither Mitch Trubisky (No. 2 pick in 2017) nor Justin Fields (No. 11 pick) lasted long enough to get a second contract with the team.
Jones’ agent told him that at least one team had called the Bears and offered them a third-day draft pick for him before cuts last week.

But a 9-8 record, while dull sounding, might be the most likely possibility.
