North Central Colorado and the metro area will see wind speeds up to 60 mph during Thursday’s storms, and 80 mph gusts will be possible with stronger thunderstorms over the plains, NWS forecasters said in a hazardous weather outlook.

“Get off the water by the early afternoon as thunderstorms with dangerous wind gusts will form,” forecasters said in a warning to boaters planning to take advantage of Thursday’s warm weather.

The Denver area will see temperature highs near 87 degrees before rain showers and thunderstorms move in just before 4 p.m., forecasters said. The strongest storms are expected to hit the metro between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Severe weather is expected to move east by mid-evening and will hit the Eastern Plains between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to NWS forecasters.

While chances for a tornado are low, the Eastern Plains could see small hail Thursday afternoon, according to NWS forecasters.
