The highway, also known as Sears Point Road, was closed from state Highway 121 to Walnut Avenue for hazardous materials removal starting Saturday afternoon. The CHP announced at 5:36 a.m. Sunday all lanes of the highway had reopened.
The closure was necessary to clean up fuel that leaked from an overturned fuel tanker into the Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Area west of Vallejo following a collision about 2 p.m. Saturday near Walnut Avenue.
“The exact number of gallons of fuel that spilled is not known, but is believed to be approximately 300 gallons,” California Highway Patrol spokesman Garrett Pumphrey said Sunday morning.
Pumphrey said earlier that the collision between two vehicles left those involved with minor injuries.
According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Area is a wildlife habitat and recreation area with over 15,000 acres of baylands, tidal sloughs and wetland habitat.
