Letter: In any normal universe, Trump’s election denialism would be disqualifying

I can respect David Hadley’s opinion when he says that in any normal universe, Donald Trump’s unwillingness to concede the 2020 election would be disqualifying. However, he then tries to make the case that this is not a normal universe by parroting Republican talking points, while ignoring or downplaying many of the actions taken by Trump in trying to overturn the 2020 election.

Mr. Hadley chooses to downplay Trump’s actions encouraging his supporters prior to the insurrection and his refusal to accept the results of the election, nor does he address Trump’s continual sowing of distrust in our electoral system.

Election denial is now an article of faith for much of the Republican Party, thanks to the continual lies of Trump and his enablers. Although Trump and others have said they have proof the election was stolen, none has ever been provided.

This is absolutely disqualifying and should be in any universe. In trying to make the case these things should be accepted, however reluctantly,  he brings up “lawfare” waged against Trump. Remember that Mitch McConnell said, regarding the impeachment proceedings surrounding the insurrection, that the law was the appropriate arena to address the charges.

Only in a universe where you believe that your party philosophy is more important than supporting our electoral system and our country could you believe that the actions of Donald Trump are not disqualifying.
