Dodger star Enrique “Kiké” Hernández, fresh off the team’s World Series victory last week, worked a “shift” at the Raising Cane’s restaurant in Alhambra as a fry cook and cashier.
The morning shift — serving customers at the drive-thru and at the walk-in counter – was quite contrast to the idea of a star pro athlete skipping town after the big game for some vacation spot.
But there was Hernandez, happily working a morning promotional shift at Raising Canes, greeting fans eager for brush with a Dodgers hero. With the World Series win still fresh, he took some time to reflect on an epic Dodgers season – while munching on some Chicken Fingers and fries.
“The way that the city showed up for us. It’s incredible,” he said. “It’s really hard to put into words. But the last couple days, the last couple weeks have been all a dream.”
Hernandez was particularly clutch for the Dodgers, as he came up with timely hits and plays that made the difference over the playoffs.
“So, I walk to home plate and I try to get a pitch to hit,” he said of his approach. “When I get a good pitch to hit, I put the ball in play and good things happen.”
Hernandez’s appearance drew quite the crowd outside, where fans cheered him on.
