A Colorado School of Mines professor was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide in the suspected drunk driving crash that killed a Golden police officer and sent another to the hospital last week.
Stephen Geer, 43, faces felony charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, both while driving under the influence, and misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault and driving under the influence, according to court records.
Golden police officer Evan Dunn and his partner, Bethany Grusing, were investigating a separate crash on Colorado 58 when Geer collided with the back of one of the cars parked on the side of the road, forcing the pair underneath, police said.
Dunn was killed in the crash and Grusing was seriously injured.
Flags across Colorado flew at half-staff Wednesday for Dunn’s memorial service, which was not open to the public.
