Elkie Brooks made a surprise appearance on This Morning to perform one of her most famous hits, Sunshine After the Rain, and fans declared she’s ‘still got it’.

The blues singer, now 79, found success in the late 1970s and 1980s, with songs including Pearl’s a Singer, Fool (If You Think It’s Over) and No More the Fool.

As she prepares to embark on ‘The Long Farewell Tour’, she took a seat on the blue sofa to talk about her career.

The Queen of British Blues shared that she still practices singing every day. ‘If you don’t use it, you lose it,’ Elkie remarked, before adding she still enjoys it entirely.

After her conversation with Dermot O’Leary and Cat Deeley, Elkie then treated viewers to her 1977 song, hitting every note.

The husky rendition led to much praise for Elkie, with fans taking to social media to celebrate her.

‘She’s still got it at 79 and sounds better than about 95% better than a lot of the singers they inflict on us on here,’ wrote account fuzzybeepants on X.

Paul Fairclough, who works as a radio broadcaster, added: ‘Almost 80 and can still knock it out of the park. I’ve interviewed her and been 6ft away when she sang. Still makes every hair stand on end. Ms Brookes a legend.’

The compliments didn’t stop there. ‘Wow…what a treat hearing Elkie Brooks on This Morning, she is amazing,’ typed Maureen Joyce.

Others were in disbelief at her age due to her appearance. Of course there’s no bad way to age, and it’s personal choice but many saluted Elkie’s handling of the process.

‘WHAT elkie brooks is 79 she looks so good for her age,’ remarked Carrie Thomas. ‘She really does, love! Makes me wonder what she’s putting in her tea…’ said OA Sota.

Sue said she was ‘growing old gracefully’ and Maggiemoon agreed: ‘What a refreshing change to see a woman with a great voice and aging with grace.’

Caroline decided to serve up her compliment with a bit of shade for the ITV daytime show: ‘Elkie Brooks a proper worthy guest for a change.’

For those wondering how she stays looking so good, luckily Elkie dropped a few secrets.

The singer credits nice creams, eating well and exercising. She gave Aikido, a type of martials arts, a particular shout-out. Elkie revealed she earned her first black belt back when she was 50 and has continued regularly working out with the method. While she keeps her mind active with games Wordle and Lingo.

The self-deprecating star said she had ‘a line for every year’ on her face, but the hosts rightly assured her that she looks fantastic.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1. Tickets for Elkie Brooks’ farewell tour are available here.
