THE US embassy in London is on lockdown – as armed cops swoop on a ‘suspicious package’ with a ‘loud bang’ heard.

Bomb disposal officers carried out a “controlled detonation” after scrambling to the embassy in Nine Elms, south London this morning.

The embassy and the roads around it have been locked down while armed cops and police dogs comb the area.

Scotland Yard said: “We’re aware of speculation online about an incident in the vicinity of the US Embassy in Nine Elms.
