Denmark manager Brian Riemer has come to the defence of Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu after his red card in the win over Ipswich on Wednesday.
The dramatic contest finished 3-2 to the Red Devils at Old Trafford after a topsy-turvy encounter.
The Tractor Boys took an early lead, before falling 2-1 behind and then seeing Dorgu shown a straight red for a really poor lunge on Omari Hutchinson.
It took a VAR intervention but the right decision was made and the January signing from Lecce was dismissed.
Ipswich equalised soon after but a Harry Maguire header early in the second half gave Ruben Amorim’s men a much-needed win.
It was a bad day for Dorgu, though, who had also cost his team the opening goal after a strange mix-up with goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Riemer has spoken out on his behalf, saying it is a situation that every defender is likely to go through in his career and he has sympathy for the 20-year-old.

‘I feel for the kid. Everyone knows it’s not fun to be in a situation like that,’ the Denmark boss said via Campo.dk.
‘But from the coaching side of the table, it’s worse if it’s tactical decisions and individual skills that aren’t good enough.
‘Seen through the coach’s eyes, I can reassure him by saying that it is a real misunderstanding. It is a communication error on some level, and of course it should not happen, but I think all defenders have experienced that.’
The young wing-back has four caps for Denmark after making his debut for his country last year.

Dorgu’s sending off means he will be suspended for United’s cup clash with Fulham, as well as the club’s upcoming league games against Arsenal and Leicester.
Asked if he is concerned Dorgu may not yet be ready for the level, Amorim replied: ‘He’s ready because he already proved that in the last game.
‘Any player here can have a mistake like today from Patrick and the sending off, he wants to play the ball.
‘Maybe he’s a little bit harsh with the way he went for the ball. He’s inexperienced but he’s clearly ready for the Premier League.
‘People judge right away so last week he was okay, good performance against Everton and today they will say that he’s not experienced enough to play in the Premier League. But I don’t feel that way.’

Dorgu’s suspension is only for domestic fixtures, so he will be able to play in the Europa League meetings with Real Sociedad.
The away leg in Spain is on 6 March and the return fixture at Old Trafford the week after.
