Facial reconstruction and thoracic surgery were only the start of a Brighton man’s long recovery after being hit by a truck last month.
Isaiah Moore, 33, said he was riding his electric skateboard home from hanging out with friends when he collided with a truck about 7:40 p.m. March 17 at the intersection of N. 10th Avenue and Denver Street. He said he “stopped for the car to go, thought he was not going to go, and (would) let me go.”
That’s all Moore said he remembers.
He woke up in the hospital with brain damage, blood clots in his lungs, abdominal issues, a broken wrist, and a hole in his diaphragm.
Moore’s injuries are so severe that his brother, Julius McClary, is moving from Texas to Colorado to help him recover.
“Not one person has ever met my brother and didn’t like him,” McClary explained. “He talks to kids on the street… he’s the sweetest soul.”
McClary said that after the truck hit Moore, a witness came out after hearing “a loud smack and happened to see my brother in a little crumble.”
Moore, who needed CPR at the scene, is expected to be in the hospital until early April.
McClary said it would be a while before his brother would be able to walk again. Moore worked in an Amazon warehouse and doesn’t have health insurance. McClary started a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills, where he stated that “with all these surgeries and new developments, it’s starting to get a little overwhelming.”
McClary said his family is “very grateful to still have my brother.”
In an online crime report, Brighton police stated that the truck driver “remained on scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation.” The report also stated that investigators do not believe that alcohol or speed was a factor in the crash.
As of April 2, the GoFundMe had raised more than $2,000.
