Downtown Long Beach was taken over by hundreds of people during Thunder Thursday, the annual community event that helps kick off Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend.
The free, family-friendly event took place on Thursday evening, April 10, with crowds gathered at the Pike Outlets to enjoy motorsports demonstrations, live music and food.

Thunder Thursday featured an NTT IndyCar Series pit stop competition along Shoreline Drive, freestyle motocross demonstrations, a classic car show at the Paseo, and meet-and-greets with pro drivers and pit crews. Emerald Street Band and Manuel The Band also put on a show for visitors as they enjoyed multiple food vendors, a beer garden and other activities.
The event gave Long Beach residents and visitors a glimpse of what’s to come during the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The Grand Prix will begin on Friday, April 11, and run until Sunday, April 13.
